IMG_8621.JPG Quite a bit of space is devoted to President Johnson's wife Lady Bird. This is an award she received while chairman of Project Head Start.
IMG_8622.JPG The background is a photo, apparently well-known, of Lady Bird sitting in a "The First Lady" chair. In the foreground is the actual chair.

IMG_8625.JPG A Chagall sketch given to President Johnson.
IMG_8626.JPG Lady Bird's office. I thought this was a duplicate of her White House office but the phone looks too new, so maybe it was a later office.

IMG_8629.JPG This was odd. This is an animatronic Lyndon Johnson telling stories. He was quite the story teller, and this robot moves his arm, head, eyes, and mouth reciting recorded Johnson tales.

IMG_8637.JPG Now we're on a duck tour through Austin. This is one of those former military anphibious vehicles now used as tourist traps around the country. It is exceedingly loud!

IMG_8646.JPG Here's what this "duck" looks like from the outside. I took some video of the tour, but no other photos. We drove around the city a bit then through Lake Austin.
IMG_4772.JPG Ok, this isn't tourist related but it tells a story. While in Austin our trailer's batteries kicked the bucket. The batteries power the lights and refrigerator while we're not connected to outside power. Before taking the batteries to Sears for warranty replacement I took this photo so I'd remember how to reconnect them. One of the batteries failed yet again, near the end of our trip in Vernon, NY.
IMG_4773.JPG You may remember we visited Alysa's friend Heather in Raleigh, NC earlier in the trip. Heather lived near Austin several years back. We had her old address so we decided to creep out the new owners and take photos of the house.

IMG_4781.JPG Outside Austin is Lake Travis, and on a cliff overlooking the lake is a huge restaurant called The Oasis.
IMG_4784.JPG The entrance area of the restaurant, and even some inside, had a large number of bronze sculptures.
IMG_4785.JPG Nice gardens too.

IMG_4792.JPG Sunset at the Oasis. The reason so many people come here is for this sunset. Just after dark many people left, so we were finally able to be seated.
IMG_4796.JPG Here's what the place looks like from the waiting area. It's a huge collection of wooden decks - 40 of them according to their web site.

IMG_4797.JPG Here's Alysa enjoying a little refreshment at sunset.
