And here in the Delta is in fact a flowing, artificial river. You can see the "city" near the center of the photo.

And for only $8.00 you can take a boatride through the "river!" We skipped the ride.

Here some ducks swim along. Behind the river is one of many restaurants or bars in the hotel.

Turns out the "river" has a story. From the plaque, "On July 28, 1996, water from more than 1700 sites around the world was 'blended' into the Delta River..."

Several plaques listed the 1700 waterways tapped. Here are those from Massachusetts, including our local Blackstone River.

A creepy looking (but very real) tree.

Also in the hotel...

Alsya and Mitch in front of the Grand Ole Opry House. Actually this is somewhat around the corner, between the Opry House and its neighboring mall. This was the cheesy part - you park at a mall to go to one of the biggest attractions in Nashville. (We actually took a shuttle bus from the hotel where we parked for the day.)

Minnie Pearl, or an actress portraying same for the benefit of those waiting outside.

The Grand Ole Opry, as we learned, is (and has been for decades) a radio show taping of country music and related performances. It's recorded "live", commercials and all. They didn't mind flash photos at all, but I didn't know this so I only had my tiny camera. This is actually a group of dancers.

Here's an apparently very famous country singer. We know nothing of country music. This guy is in the country music hall of fame, and the crowd was very happy to see him. This might be Jimmy Dickens.

Close-up of same country star. Obviously well-dressed for the part!

A wide shot of the stage, with another unknown famous person. (I'm checking my notes, and think this is George Hamilton IV on stage with his son, George V.)

And lastly, another apparent big star (also a member of the hall of fame). Possibly Bill Anderson. While we couldn't quite sing along to the music we had a great time. The energy of a live radio show is right up our alley.

The day after the Opry, we went historical for a tour of The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson.

While the giant Biltmore Estate in Asheville was sterile, the more modest Hermitage was very warm and inviting. Considered a mansion in its day, its size could be called a large home by today's standards. It sits on roughly 1,100 acres, used then (and still now) for farming.

We took a horse-drawn tour of the grounds.
