Here we are on Saturday 5/15. We took the Metro in to tour, amongst other things, the Capitol. Turns out the President was giving a speech in front of the Capitol, part of a memorial to fallen police officers. I thought this was an interesting shot of press coverage.

It was a very hot and sunny day. This is a reporter seeking shade under the press bleachers. I don't think she moved the whole day, just took notes on the ground.

A great benefit of a digital camera and zoom lens - I was able to read the program, held by the reporter in the earlier photo. As the day progressed she added notes to the program and to her notebook.

In the center is President George W. Bush. To his right is Attorney General John Ashcroft. Two more over is FBI Director Robert Mueller.

Our President. No comment.

President speaking. This man is not a good speaker. If you've heard his flubs in big speeches, just imagine how he on days like this, giving a minor speech getting almost no coverage. Yes, this man is the leader of the free world. Again, no comment.

On stage in a bright pink outfit is a woman providing sign language interpretation. I'm guessing the outfit is so she can be easily seen. And oh my, is she!

After the President's speech we finally took our Capitol tour. This is walking alongside the building.

Standing on the Capitol steps, looking down upon the area where we were watching the President a short time earlier. The President was long gone, but some of the ceremony was still going on.

This is the "great hall" of the Capitol, the room with the dome. Lots of statues and big paintings on the walls.

Alysa, enjoying some time to sit a moment. We've been running around in the heat for two straight days - who can blame her?

Statue of George Washington, who was a much better president than our current George.

Now in another room, which was used by the House for many years. This plaque sits on the floor where John Quincy Adams sat before becoming President. Such plaques mark all seats of those who later became President.
